Michelle DennisonMichelle Dennison also writes as Julianne Alcott. Michelle started scribbling down stories more or less as soon as she was able to form her ABC’s.
She has a Diploma in Horticulture and a degree in Theology, and is Mummy to a gorgeous little girl who has just started Grade 2. She is currently a media assistant in a Primary School, but whatever else she does in her life, Michelle is always a writer. Growing up, she was also a copious reader, and used this experience to decide what kind of stories she wanted to write. Little Women was the first book that made her realise that a novel can change someone’s life. Love stories are a must, but often with some added spice . . . spies, murder, or saving the environment. She wants her writing to make a difference. People must ideally finish one of her novels, and find themselves back in the real world with something special they didn’t have before. Something to make their lives a little richer, and their burdens feel a little lighter. She enjoys movies, chocolate and learning new things, especially when they can be used as research for a new novel. Her writing inspirations are Jane Austen, Mary Stewart and Agatha Christie. |
Penny MitchellPenny is British born, at home in Africa and a Business Development Consultant in the trust and fiduciary field.
Penny studied at Bath Technikon, UK, and attained the London Chamber of Commerce Private Secretarial Certificate. She spent the first part of her working life as a glorified Girl Friday which is probably why she loves her Saturday morning sleep-in. She passed her bank exams too long ago to remember and attained diplomas in Trust and Estate planning and administration. Penny is a proud mother of two children who never cease to surprise her. She is expecting to receive her Granny L plates soon. She has a genetic passion for writing, loves innovation, movies, song, dance and creative communications of all kinds, provided they are polite. She is territorial in her kitchen, particular about her cuisine, walks barefoot (at home) and is ‘pregnant’ with words. Penny is a member of the South African Writers’ Circle, the 100 Lines Club and hosts an exclusive writers’ group, called Writing Buddies. She writes poetry, short stories, plays, lyrics and is willing to try just about anything with her clothes on that involves non-verbal communication. |
Susan RobertsSusan grew up reading Enid Blyton books and Princess Tina magazines, and dancing in local pantomimes. Despite the influence of Alistair MacLean, Indiana Jones and the first Star Wars movie, Susan found time to study enough to graduate from University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Speech & Drama.
After such a start, it naturally followed that she would seek a career in the world of make-believe, and she has been a stage manager in the South African theatre industry for the last thirty years. Recently, she returned to a favourite pastime: writing. Susan joined the South African Writers’ Circle in 2007, and won trophies for Best New Writer that year, and Writer of The Year in 2008, 2009 and 2010. In 2009 she completed the postgraduate Creative Writing module of the English Honours course at the University of KwaZulu-Natal under the mentorship of award-winning author Michael Cawood Green. After several attempts at writing angst-ridden, deep-and-meaningful literature, she gave up and started writing the kind of books that she likes to read instead. Three decades in the entertainment industry have supplied her with plenty of material . . . Susan shares her Durban home with three cats, eats more chocolate than she should, and enjoys watching any movies that star Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe or Alessio Boni. Sue TrollipSue spent her early days in the KZN midlands then moved to the city where she swapped a view of the Drakensberg Mountains for one of the Indian Ocean.
She is a writer of short stories, articles, travel pieces and periodically, poetry. She is currently working on her novel and has a BA (Hons) degree in Theory of Literature. She has won several prizes for her writing but not the Man Booker, Pulitzer or Nobel. Sue loves shortbread and dulce de leche ice cream and is addicted to coffee. Her other loves include reading, watching movies and travelling. Housework does not suit her at all. |
